Denise Stoughton

Interior Designer + Modern Air Head

BI Design is a boutique interior design company specializing in high-end residential renovations and ground-up projects on Bainbridge Island, WA and its surrounding areas, including Seattle. Designer, Denise Stoughton maintains a collaborative space in which clients can participate in the design process as much or as little as is comfortable. The motto she lives by is magical transformation, believing beautiful spaces positively impact the lives of those who dwell within.

Denise spent the better part of 20 years designing and developing home décor products in NYC and founded her design firm upon moving to Bainbridge Island two years ago – bringing her love of design, decoration and home décor with her. She is an accomplished designer and free-lance writer and blogger. You can find Denise’s articles on mo-minski.com as well as on bainbridgecurrents.com. She writes impassioned (and often humorous) articles on design, public art, community and human interest.

The importance of making art accessible motivated Denise to volunteer on the Public Art Committee, the Creative Arts District Committee and the Editorial Board of Arts & Humanities Bainbridge. She donates 50% of her $200 initial site visit fee to local non-profits supporting the arts.

Parallel to founding her design company, Denise developed a collection of wall-planter décor, called Modern Airhead which speaks to her love of modernism, innovation and sense of joy. The modular aspect of the collection offers a matrix by which customers can use the planters as vessels for containing tillandsia (air plants), succulents and potted plants as well as a modern art display by which they can bring their love of nature indoors in an artistic fashion.

Denise studied design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, her design aesthetic is clean and modern, influenced by her travels, art, fashion, architecture, pop-culture and of course, each individual client. Through a series of discussions and surveys, she learns the style, needs and desires of her clients as well as that of the space to create a timeless, functional and unique environment. Her finely tuned knowledge of color, detail and function allows her to work in a range of styles to construct a signature look tailored to reflect the space in which she is working.

Supporting The Community

Denise serves on the Bainbridge Public Art Committee (PAC), a sub-committee of Arts & Humanities Bainbridge (AHB).
